Playa Grande is a beautiful and tranquil beach town, located in the North Pacific Coast in the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica.    Playa Grande is situated in The National Las Baulas Marine Park, the home to the endangered Leatherback Sea Turtles that come ashore every year to lay their eggs on the beach.

 

Activities are plentiful in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Besides surfing, there is plenty to do. Whether it's sailing, diving, sport fishing, swimming, surfing, kayaking, horseback riding, river rafting, canopy touring, bird and wildlife watching, golfing or just plain old sun worshipping while sipping on a tall, cool beverage there is something for everyone.

 

The Playa Grande community consists of laid back restaurants and small shops. Many within a short walking distance from our apartments (see local map below). A small community of expats brings a welcoming, harmonious vibe to the area, along with tantalizing culinary options ranging from organic salads, to delicious sushi. Grande's nightlife is quiet in comparison to Tamarindo, but there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the town’s laid-back social scene.

 

There is a small Costa Rican style store a 5 minute walk from the apartments where you can get basic essentials (drinks, eggs, bread, veggies, fruit, etc).  For serious grocery shopping, there is a large store less than 10 minutes inland where the Tamarindo/Grande/Flamingo roads meet in a small town called Huacas.  Tamarindo and its amenities are accessible in about 15 minutes by car. It's also possible to wade the estuary during low tide at the south Palm Beach Estates end of Grande, or hire a small local boat called a panga to take you across.



Tired from a long day of surfing or from a hike in Rincon de La Vieja National Park?  Enjoy a massage in the privacy of your apartment by one of Playa Grande's certified masseuses. Or maybe a yoga class is what you are looking for.  Then stop bye PGI and visit Lynn at RAW, she can make you a delicious smoothie, pressed juice or homemade granola bar.

 

While we hope you don't need this while you are here, there is a dental and medical clinic in Playa Grande, a 5 minute walk from the apartments.  About 5 minutes by car is a 24 hour emergency and local pharmacy.

 

 

Playa Grande boasts the finest weather in all of Costa Rica. There is minimal rain, less humidity and the most sunshine throughout the year. So, don’t just read about how great this area is, come experience it for yourself!
